Avery Sunshine
Avery Sunshine has a unique style that blends R&B with gospel, soul music, and R&B. Sunshine has appeared on Broadway as well as in the Democratic National Convention and in clubs and festivals throughout Europe. Her real name is Denise White. Though she's located in Atlanta, her roots are situated in Chester Pennsylvania. There she started to pursue an interest in music, performing and singing at church. She studied at Spellman College and began to study the R&B styles of Atlanta. She was appointed as the primary keyboardist in Tyler Perry's musical Meet the Browns in 2005. Jennifer Holliday was the Grammy and Tony Award winner who approached her in 2007 to serve as the director of chorus for Dreamgirls which was a stage production at Atlanta's National Black Arts Festival. Sunshine was the subject of national media interest during four consecutive performances during the 2008 Democratic National Convention and was then invited to sing at the inauguration of President Obama in 2009.
